Furnace Blowing Cold Air
Separating harmless fan settings from genuine heat failures.

Identify the symptom
The blower is moving air but the air is not warm. Note whether burners light at all. That single observation splits airflow problems from ignition problems.
Safe first checks
Thermostat not set to fan-only. Filter not packed. Registers open. If you just changed the filter, confirm it is the right size and not an extremely restrictive model.
What different observations suggest
Burners light then drop out: heat-side diagnosis such as flame sensor, igniter, gas valve or a limit opening from poor airflow.
Burners never light and the blower still runs: say that clearly on the request.

What not to do
Do not tape a limit switch or block returns to force more heat into one room.
Repair implications
Cold air after a filter change can be airflow. Cold air with no flame is a heat-side repair. Age plus a major heat-side part is when replacement belongs in the same conversation.
Request furnace repair with the burner observation included.
Filter and limit switches
A packed filter raises temperature rise and opens a limit. The blower then pushes unheated air. Replacing the filter and letting the furnace cool can restore heat if that was the only fault.
If heat does not return after a correct filter and a short wait, do not keep cycling the power. Request repair and say whether burners lit.
Questions
- Is cold air at start-up normal?
- A brief delay before the blower ramps up is normal on many furnaces. Minutes of cold air after the cycle should have started is not.
