Air Conditioner Repair in Airdrie
An air conditioner that runs without lowering the thermostat is a common mid-summer call. The outdoor fan may spin, the indoor blower may move air, and the house still sits several degrees above the setpoint. This page covers the repair-side issues behind that pattern.

What not cooling usually looks like
Warm supply air, a fan that will not start, ice on the copper lines, short cycles, or a unit that ran last week and stopped after a storm.
If the house has any cooling at all, say so. No cooling and weak cooling are different first tests.
Safe checks before a visit
Thermostat in cooling, setpoint below room temperature, filter not packed, outdoor disconnect on, coil face not buried in debris.
If the lines are iced, turn the system off. Do not chip ice. Do not add refrigerant. Do not open the electrical panel.
Fault categories
Airflow and dirty coils, electrical parts such as a capacitor or contactor, a fan motor that will not spin, or a sealed-circuit problem that needs leak tracing.
A capacitor is usually a repair. A leaking coil or failed compressor on a long-in-service pair deserves both a repair number and a replacement number.

What not to attempt
Bypassing safeties, forcing a fan with tools, mixing refrigerants, or running an iced system for hours.
What to put on the request
Whether the outdoor fan is spinning, whether you see ice, filter change date if known, and approximate system age.
After the first checks fail
Once the thermostat, filter and disconnect are ruled out, remaining causes need tools and recovery equipment. That is the line between homeowner checks and a service visit.
Tell the request whether the failure started suddenly or faded over days. Sudden stops after a storm often point to power or a contactor. A slow loss of cooling more often points to airflow or a leak.
If the system is more than a decade old, say so up front so the visit can include a replacement range instead of only a part number.
Questions
- My AC runs but the house is not cooling. Is that always a major repair?
- Not always. A dirty filter or outdoor coil can create the same symptom as a refrigerant leak. Diagnosis comes first.
