Furnace Replacement Cost in Airdrie
The variables that move a furnace replacement quote in southern Alberta.

Why two houses receive different quotes
Replacement cost is equipment plus the work required to make that equipment run in this house. Efficiency class, staging, venting, condensate, ducts, electrical and disposal are separate line items. Treating them as one advertised number is how two honest quotes look like they disagree.
Published retailer ranges for Alberta gas furnace installation can be a sanity check on the equipment portion. They are not a substitute for a scoped visit.
Equipment variables
Capacity has to match the house. Oversizing short-cycles. Undersizing never catches up on a design-cold night.
AFUE, single-stage versus two-stage or variable operation, and blower type change both price and how the furnace runs through a long heating season.
Compatibility with an existing air-conditioning coil matters if you already have cooling. Replacing the furnace and orphaning the coil is a later surprise.
Installation variables
Mid-efficiency to high-efficiency swaps often need new venting and a condensate path that did not exist before.
Gas-line sizing, electrical, thermostat, removal of the old cabinet, and any return or supply changes belong on the quote.
Mechanical-room access changes labour. That is a site fact, not a brand fact.

How to compare quotations
List equipment model or class, venting plan, condensate, electrical, thermostat, disposal, duct work if needed, permit handling if included, and commissioning.
Compare those scopes first. Then compare the totals. Assumed reuse of a chimney, coil or pad should be written down.

Reuse versus new infrastructure
A chimney, coil, thermostat or gas line can sometimes be reused. Each reuse should be a written assumption. If the visit finds it cannot be reused, that is a change order, not a surprise that was always included.
Condensing furnaces need a drain path. If the current cabinet is mid-efficiency, assume that path is new work until the quote says otherwise.
Commissioning — temperature rise, gas pressure, safety-switch check — is how you know the installed furnace matches the equipment line you paid for.
Questions
- Does a higher AFUE always cost more installed?
- Usually the equipment does. Installation complexity can dwarf the difference between two similar cabinets.
